Your phone is the most dangerous thing in the car

Royal Motoring School · 17 July 2026

At 50 km/h, three seconds looking at a screen means over 40 metres travelled with your eyes closed — nearly half a football pitch. No message is worth it, and during your test any phone interaction is an instant, serious fault.

Build the habit early: phone on silent, out of reach, before you start the engine. If you need navigation, set it up while parked and let the voice guide you. Your passengers can handle the rest.
